Travel InfoBy The Himalayan Trails Team
## Overview Manali sits at 2,050 meters in the Kullu Valley and experiences four distinct seasons, each offering a completely different travel experience. Whether you want snow-covered landscapes, lush green valleys, or clear skies for trekking, timing your visit correctly makes all the difference. ## Summer (March – June) Summer is the most popular season for visiting Manali. Daytime temperatures range from 15°C to 25°C, making it ideal for outdoor activities. Key highlights include: - **March–April**: Snow begins to melt at lower altitudes; Rohtang Pass remains closed - **May–June**: Peak tourist season with pleasant weather; all passes and treks open - Solang Valley, Rohtang Pass, and Hampta Pass trek are fully accessible - Book accommodations well in advance as prices surge during this period ## Monsoon (July – September) The monsoon brings heavy rainfall and frequent landslides, particularly on the Manali-Leh highway. However, this season has its own charm: - Waterfalls are at full force and the valley turns lush green - Fewer tourists mean better hotel deals and quieter trails - High-altitude treks like Hampta Pass remain doable in July with proper rain gear - Avoid road trips to Rohtang or Spiti during August due to landslide risk ## Winter (October – February) Winter transforms Manali into a snow wonderland. Temperatures drop below freezing at night, but the scenery is unmatched: - **October–November**: Post-monsoon clarity with golden autumn colours - **December–February**: Heavy snowfall; perfect for snow sports at Solang Valley - Rohtang Pass and most high-altitude treks close by mid-October - Ideal for cozy cafes, hot springs at Vashisht, and photography ## Our Recommendation For trekking and adventure sports, visit between **May and June** or **September to mid-October**. For snow experiences without extreme cold, **late December to January** works well. Budget travellers should consider July when prices drop significantly despite the rain.
