Widely regarded as India's prettiest trek, the Kashmir Great Lakes trail traverses seven pristine alpine lakes—including Vishansar, Kishansar, Gadsar, Satsar, and Gangabal—nestled against sheer glaciated cirques.

Trail & Route Description

Starts from Shitkadi near Sonmarg, ascends through Nichnai Pass (4,150 m), crosses Gadsar Pass (4,200 m), Satsar meadows, and descends past Mount Harmukh into Naranag.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Sonmarg to Nichnai

Ascent through maple and silver birch forests to Nichnai campsite (3,500 m).

Nichnai to Vishansar Lake

Cross Nichnai Pass (4,150 m) with views of emerald green valleys into Vishansar.

Vishansar to Gadsar

Climb past Kishansar Lake to Gadsar Pass (4,200 m) and descend to the Lake of Flowers.

Gadsar to Satsar

Trek through meadows and ridge traverses to the seven interconnected Satsar lakes.

Satsar to Gangabal Twin Lakes

Cross Zajibal Pass (4,080 m) with dramatic views of Mount Harmukh reflecting in Gangabal.

Explore Nundkol Lake and the base of Mount Harmukh glacier.
