A summit trek to Chandrashila starting from the meadows of Chopta, visiting Tungnath—the highest Shiva temple in the world (3,680 m)—with a 360-degree view of Nanda Devi and Trishul.

Trail & Route Description

The trail starts from Chopta and climbs on a well-paved path through alpine meadows and rhododendron forests to Tungnath. Beyond Tungnath, a steeper rocky path leads to the Chandrashila summit.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Chopta to Tungnath

Begin the 3.5 km trek from Chopta (2,680 m). The trail offers great views of the Himalayas. Reach Tungnath temple (3,680 m) and rest.

Tungnath to Chandrashila Summit and back to Chopta

Early morning 1.5 km steep hike to Chandrashila summit (4,000 m) for a spectacular sunrise over Nanda Devi. Descend all the way back to Chopta.
